Murals, Faux Finishes, and Painted Furniture in CT - Connecticut

BK and Co. - West Hartford CTJudith creates exquisite custom painted interiors, decorative applications, and murals on walls, floors, ceilings, and furniture in fine homes throughout the greater Connecticut area. She is skilled in painted murals of many styles, including trompe l’oeil, vintage, classical, architectural, whimsical, impressionist, and children’s murals. Her murals and painted wall finishes grace many homes, businesses, and schools throughout Connecticut.

Judith has a well-trained eye when it comes to color and design and her wide variety of faux finish techniques reflects her ability. She is skilled in many techniques, including antiquing, colorwashing, combing, strie, damask, fresco, frottage, graining, marbling, plasters and textures, relief work, stenciling, stone effects, tissue paper, tortoiseshelling, trompe l’oeil, venetian plaster and vinegar painting.

Judith brings her love of nature to her mural work. Luminous skies, soft green foliage, an atmospheric perspective, and painterly details comprise a landscape mural. Her wall paintings create a mood, transforming a room into a place to relax, surrounded by beauty. One example is a mural in a little girl’s room in Farmington, CT. The scene is of a Cape Cod coastline, painted in soft colors, featuring the little girl in a pink sundress and hat, collecting seashells in her bucket. Another mural decorates the walls of a parlor in an 18th century home in Riverton, CT. The painting has an aged, historic look, in a style similar to that of the itinerant mural painters of that period. Many scenes and styles can be designed and painted upon request.

To create a mural Judith interviews family members to discover their preferences: tastes in style, design and color; favorite places to visit; pastimes; what they love; what they consider to be beautiful. Then she creates scenes reflecting the unique personalities of the family members. People often tell Judith “You’ve painted it exactly as I pictured it in my mind!”

Painted Furniture
Painted furniture continues to gain popularity. Judith will create custom designs and finishes on any furniture, new or old. Many customers enjoy having an old piece from around the house, a yard sale find, or something from an unfinished furniture shop, recreated into a work of art. Judith will transform armoires, beds, bureaus, tables, chairs, etc. into one-of-a-kind heirlooms. Using graining, antiquing, fine decorative painting, and a variety of finishes, she will create a piece that will bring delight for many years.

A customer from Simsbury, requested an armoire be painted to coordinate with her newly redecorated bedroom. The piece had a lovely cream colored base aged with umber glaze, and creeping floral vines, that were painted from designs on her fabrics.

Another customer from West Hartford, had a dining set painted with an aged finish, and the back of each chair was painted with a scene from the English countryside where the woman lived as a child.
